SUMMARY

After Anton Vetrov brutally murders a young girl as a warning to Tristan Riley, the broken DEA agent believes the best thing for Lillian Maddox to do would be to stay far, far away from him. But Lillian knows a thing or two about fear, and she's not willing to let the man she loves push her away that easily. If he won't fight for them, she will... even if that means risking her life to prove she's strong enough to live in his world.

Her plan ends in disaster when she's dragged out of Teplo at gunpoint, forcing Tristan onto a collision course with the Vetrov family and Pedro Francisco. With nothing left to lose except the only woman who has ever mattered to him, he will do whatever it takes to stop Vetrov and Francisco from ever hurting her again.

But he doesn't know they've been waiting for him to make his move. When he does, all hell breaks loose, and his life is on the line. It's up to Lillian and the DEA to save him, and she's terrified they won't make it in time.

Thrust headlong into a violent, bloody confrontation with the Vetrov family, Lillian comes face to the face with the heartbreaking realization that maybe she doesn't belong in Tristan's world, after all. When the smoke clears, will he be able to convince his ballerina that she's the best thing for him, or will he lose her and the chance at a real future once and for all?

RHAPSODY EXCERPT

"Hey," he whispered, leaning back against the counter.

She didn't hesitate before walking straight to him.

His right arm went around her, gathering her close as that same strange twisting sensation hit him right in the heart. She rested her head against his chest, humming her contentment. She felt so good in his arms, warm and soft. He pressed his lips to her forehead, breathing her in. She smelled like sin, like him and her and lilacs.

"How'd you sleep, beautiful?" he asked.

"Good. I always sleep so well with you."

"Good." A pleased rumble started in his chest. He pressed his lips to her forehead again, and then her temple. "I like having you in my bed."

"Me too."

Jason cleared his throat, reminding Tristan he was still on the line. "I'll let you go, man. See you tonight?"

"Yeah, later." Tristan set his phone on the counter and tilted Lillian's face up to his, kissing her deeply. She tasted like mint and sugar, so sweet. When they were both breathing heavily, he broke the kiss and led her to the table before settling her into a chair.

Her blush deepened as her eyes flickered to the table and then back to him, no doubt remembering what they'd done there a few short hours ago.

He couldn't help the smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he remembered too. The feel of her gripping him, the way she cried out for him, gasping that she loved him. The look in her eyes when she'd demanded he take her…. His cock hardened at the memory of her commanding him to give her what she wanted. Christ, he'd never get enough of her.

"You hungry?" he asked, backing away before he lifted her up onto the tabletop and had her for breakfast.

"Starving," she whispered, desire turning her eyes to hazel flames. She bit her lip, her gaze roving shamelessly up and down his body.

"Behave," he growled, swiping his thumb across her bottom lip, "or I'll bend you over the table and make you scream my name again."

New Release: Diverging Cadence by @KatieTeller1 #romance #newadult

When Cadence Anderson woke to find her husband and infant daughter had been killed, she thought her life was over. Instead, she was offered a second chance and sent back in time to do it all again.
She’s made the most of this opportunity, repairing her relationship with the best friend she lost the first time, avoiding the romantic mistakes she made originally, and even bringing her family closer together. But she’s also done something she wasn’t planning on—she’s fallen in love with someone other than her future husband.

Stepping onto a plane and flying across country to attend university is the hardest decision she’s had to make. But unless she follows through with it, her future with Austin might never happen. And what becomes of her beautiful baby if she stays with James, the man she was never supposed to love?

The only thing she knows for certain is that she has to see Austin again, and she’s intent on reliving that part of her previous life exactly like she did the first time. Even if that means she has to lie to James to do it. Because, deep down, she can’t quite bring herself to let him go.

Now, past and future are about to collide, and Cadence has to make her final choice—follow the uncertain path of a life with James, or the one she came back to save . . . with Austin.

In this emotional conclusion to the story that began in Deceptive Cadence, relationships will be tested, identities revealed, and the past will overshadow the future, putting the finishing touches on an unforgettable tale of courage, sacrifice, and, above all, love.

Ayden Reviews: Over the Fence by @MorelandMelanie #romance

Two neighbors—strangers—with one thing in common—they share a fence.

But is that the only thing they share?

Nathan Fraser lives a solitary life, never letting anyone get too close. It’s safer that way.

Kourtney Whyte hides from the world and behind her work, too afraid to really live her life to the fullest. Rejection is what she knows best.

But one night, the sound of her soft voice and the tantalizing aroma of her evening meal, prove too enticing for Nathan to ignore.

So begins their unconventional relationship—talking, learning, texting, and gradually opening up to one another, all over the fence.

That is, until the day Nathan braves the high fence to protect Kourtney from her past, and changes everything forever.

Can they move forward together, without the buffer of the fence?

Or will their pasts prove to be too much of a barrier?

My Review

I was fortunate enough to get to read Over the Fence for Melanie a couple of months ago, and I still want to kiss Melanie for giving me that honor.

When Kourtney Whyte moves in next to Nathan Fraser, he expects the same old, same old. What he gets is a neighbor with a penchant for cooking, and one of the sweetest laughs he's ever heard. And luckily for him, Kourtney's willing to take pity on a cooking-challenged bachelor and feed him.

What starts as a simple kindness between two neighbors quickly turns into the highlight of Nathan's day. He lives for conversations shared through the slats of the fence. The only problem? He's dying to meet his neighbor face to face, but she seems content with things just the way they are. Until a part of her past comes back to haunt her.

When Kourtney is cornered by the jerk (who needs to be eaten by lions), Nathan leaps to her defense, stepping over the fence for the first time. What he finds in Kourtney is more than he ever dreamed. She's beautiful, talented, sweet, and so kind. But Kourtney has had a lifetime of sorrow, and her insecurities are not easily overcome.

Nathan makes it his mission in life to teach her just how beautiful she is. And then she learns the truth about Nathan's dark past, forcing her and Nathan both to confront their demons and decide whether they're able to move forward together.

From page one, I loved Nathan and his Chefgirl. Nathan is such a sweetheart - and a total bachelor. He eats questionable leftover food, forgets to grocery shop, and has a pitiful excuse for a yard. But he's hardworking, loyal, and his attraction to his mysterious neighbor brings out the funny guy in him. He's so easy to like!

And so is Kourtney. She's fragile, having been taken advantage of and tormented by those who should have protected her. Until Nathan, she never really had anyone to tell her how important she is and how much she has to offer the world. She struggles to believe him, but with his help, she begins to break free of the prison of her past.

There was nothing I didn't like about this novel... except maybe for the fact that the jerk didn't get eaten by lions. I was really cheering for lions to devour him. But Kourtney didn't really need lions to put him in his place anyway. She has Nathan for that, and I love how much he loves her.

Over the Fence is bittersweet, beautiful, and laugh-out-loud funny all at once.

5/5 Stars.

Known as the quiet one with the big laugh, Melanie works at a local university and for its football team. Her job, while demanding, is rewarding as she cheers on her team to victory.

Review of Watch Me Burn (The December People Series #2) by Sharon Bayliss

I can't wait until just a little time has passed so I can read this again. Let's start there.

Still riding on Destruction: The December People, Book One,Sharon Bayliss drew me in right away with Watch Me Burn: The December People, Book Two and I couldn't put it down. I immediately hated and loved the Prescotts.

The Vandergraff's are wonderfully flawed, confident, perfect, and insecure all wrapped into one enigmatic and functionally dysfunctional family. That's right: functionally dysfunctional family.

My favorite scene (this might be a spoiler, but it's not absolutely crucial to the overall plot of the book. Still, if you're trying to avoid spoilers, skip this paragraph) is when the sisters are arguing in the bedroom. I can imagine when I was younger, my younger and much more extroverted sister casting a spell on me to keep me too confused to be able to read a book. I would have been devastated. It could have been quite possibly the worst thing my sister could have done to me - if she'd had the power.

All in all, this book has clinched my fate with this series. I can't wait to discover what else Sharon Bayliss has in store for the Vandergraff's.

Star Rating 5 out of 5.

Review of Escape from Witchwood Hollow by Jordan Elizabeth Mierek

Before reading this book, my first thought (based solely on the cover image and the synopsis) was that this was going to be a little too much like Blair Witch for my liking. After reading this book, I wish I had gotten started on it earlier. All my favorite genres (paranormal/fantasy, history, horror) eloquently rolled into one astounding book.

First, the positives: I love a story with interweaving timelines and plots. Overall, the potential within this book kept me reading. This was a unique approach to time travel and fantasy which I found refreshing and original. The reveals were well timed out and overall everything was thoughtfully written. Despite the many time jumps, most of the details seemed to fall in line. There were a few minor mistakes in research, but nothing so glaring that it ruined the book for me.

On the negative side: I had a bit of a hard time relating to Honoria. This might have just been a difference in age; but to me she seemed a little too forced, as though she was written from an older point of view and then tried to fit her into the high school scene like a puzzle piece placed into the wrong spot. Having been the new girl moving to a small New England town filled with legends after a tragic loss, I thought I would be able to relate to her more and was really disappointed when I couldn't.

As for other characters, I wish they had been developed a little more. I found myself asking a lot of whys or feeling like the overall motivation behind some of the characters' actions weren't divulged as much as I would have liked. Some of the time jumps happened so abruptly that I was pulled out of the story so I could go back to see if I had missed something.

This is the first book I've read by Jordan Elizabeth Mierek, and I think it was a good one to start with. I look forward to more of her work!

Star Rating: 4.5 out of 5
